First Mountain is a psychedelic jazz-rock fusion ensemble from North Jersey and the Hudson Valley. Formed by band leader Jimmy Tyndall in 2016 with members of the rock, jazz, funk, and fusion scenes of the greater NY/NJ area, First Mountain released their first full-length album on April 20th, 2020. The album has been described as escaping the pigeonhole of genres and labels, though a faithful homage of musical elements borrowed from Tower of Power, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, and the Electric Miles era. The name First Mountain comes from a 200-million year-old mountain ridge close to the NY/NJ border that the majority of band members lived on when the band formed in 2016. Between the spaced-out bluesy guitars, the fender rhodes, the electrified horn section, and a bass and drum package deal, First Mountain brings a live performance as intriguing as you’d hear on the album.
