10th Anniversary Single-Release Beers: Past, Present, & Upcoming Brews

2013 marks the tenth anniversary of Keegan Ales.
We are proud to celebrate this accomplishment, and we could not have done it without the help from our faithful patrons here at the brewery. To show our appreciation, we are bringing you ten new, single-release beers to the taps throughout the year. Some beers are creative new explorations, some are old favorites being brought out of retirement, but all the beers are made with the intention of giving our thanks to our customers for supporting us for ten years, and we hope you will join us for the next ten!
At 5.7% ABV, Swarmin’ Hive is a smooth, easy drinking brew. It’s hearty enough to warm you on a cold winter’s night, but still light on the pallet. Look for a creamy head on the pour with a honey nose, giving way to a prominent vanilla taste and a slight hop finish. This refreshing brew is here to remind you that Spring is right around the corner.
The honey itself for Swarmin’ Hive comes from no further than our own roof, where a rogue swarm settled in to an abandoned hive, next to our existing colonies. The gift of these squatters was a blessing, just as our ten years of brewing fine beers has been.
KD’s Trippel was first brewed by our good friend, Kevin Davis, a master of brewing Belgian style beers. Brewmaster Tommy Keegan and Kevin went to grad school together, where they studied beer, both inside the classroom and inside the local bars (in almost equal proportions). At one point, Tommy and Kevin found themselves working together at Keegan Ales. We needed more help on the production floor while the bar/restaurant was being built. Once the restaurant was opened, it was time for Kevin to get back to his Belgian beer roots. He produced this delicious beer for us as a good-bye present. It was brewed several times and was very popular before being retired. Now in celebration of Keegan Ales’ 10th anniversary, we are re-releasing this old favorite. As you raise a glass of this golden brew, look for notes of coriander and fruity esters. This beer was made with candied sugar from Michael’s Candy Corner, located directly across the street from the brewery. We brewed this fine ale to pay homage to all the great comraderies forged by beer.

Allow us to introduce the third of our ten single-release beers brewed in honor of our 10-year anniversary. Released just in time for Mother’s Day, “HELGA” is a dry hopped bohemian pilsner named after head-brewer Geoff Wenzel’s mom, Helga.
Coming in at a sessionable 4.7% ABV, the malt profile is that of a traditional pilsner style lager, characterized by its light and refreshing mouth-feel. Brewed exclusively with Helga hops, (also known as southern Hallertau) this beer hits you with a grassy yet delicate floral aroma. The late dry hop addition adds to the experience, making this beer a unique example of the style.
Brewed in honor of Helga Wenzel, we set out to create a beer that she would thoroughly enjoy. After weeks of hard work, this 40 barrel batch of beer is definitely the most elaborate mother’s day gift Geoff has ever given. Having 3 siblings, this gift solidifies Geoff’s spot as “the favorite”.
Longest Day IPA
Our most popular release in our anniversary series, the Longest Day IPA is a light bodied session-able india pale ale packed with plenty of citrus and floral aromas. Coming in at just under 5% ABV, this beer has a light, refreshing mouthfeel, loads of hop character, and the perfect brew for a summer day. This beer was brewed to commemorate the recent expansion of Keegan Ales, installing two 80-bbl fermentation tanks into the brewery.
Our take on a Belgian wit beer, “Dim Wit” is an unfiltered and refreshing brew. The recipe contains a heavy dose of unmalted white wheat, giving the beer a full mouth-feel and hazy appearance. The use of a Belgian Wit yeast during fermentation leaves you with a fruity nose that compliments the coriander and orange peel used in this brew.
